3. Botanical Description
Botanical Name: Achyranthes aspera Linn.
Family: Amaranthaceae
A stiff, erect herb, 3–4 feet high, commonly found throughout India up to 3000 ft altitude. It often grows as a weed in gardens, roadsides, and waste places.
- Leaves: Simple, opposite, somewhat oval or elliptic, 2.5–12.5 cm long, pubescent on both sides.
- Flowers: Small, greenish, arranged in long, dense, deflexed spikes; bracts are spiny, often cling to clothes.
- Fruit: Small, one-seeded utricle, easily adheres to fabric or fur.
- Flowering & Fruiting: November to January.

Skin & Wound Healing:
Paste or juice applied on wounds, scabies, itching, eczema, and insect bites. Acts as an antiseptic and promotes healing. -

Root paste with honey is beneficial in bleeding piles. Kṣāra used externally for fistula-in-ano and hemorrhoids. -
Antipoisonous Action:
Applied externally in snake bite, scorpion sting, dog and rat bites; root or seed paste is used. -
